Meeting other members & Getting Involved

Firstand foremost, we are a Student Organization here on campus which meansthat we rely on our members to teach lessons, repair boats, and holdleadership positions.We can offer free membership to members that help out in such a mannerand it's a great way to get more involved in our sailing community.

Teaching
If you love teaching, thenconsider becoming one of our Instructors or Assistant Instructors! You'll get a freemembership the quarter that you teach. You only need anIntermediate rating to teach. Contact the vice commodore at:vicecommodore@washingtonyachtclub.org, to let them know you areinterested.

Overnight Cruises
Snooze 'n' Cruise is the Washington YachtClub's Quarterly (except winter!) trip from the University to BlakeIsland, out in Puget Sound for a weekend! All club members are welcometo come, with or without ratings, and each club member can bring up totwo guests from outside of the club. Many boats go on a SnC, includingall of the club keelboats.

Meetings
Meetings are usually held every 2 weeks, but stay tuned to the wyc_info Email List and or check our website for the schedule. We discuss where the club is going,you can propose changes, voice your opinion, and all student memberscan vote!

Committee Positions
Don'twant to be an officer but still want to help? We give freememberships to positionholders in our "Committees." If you're excitedabout teaching, boat maintenance, or helping out with theadministrative side of our club (e.g. event planning, publicity, etc),look on our website for all available positions. Contact an officer or just come to a meeting if you are interested in a position.

Workparties
Every week we have regular workparties tokeep our fleets in good running order and socialize.Even if you don't know anything about boat maintenance, we encourageall new members to come to workparties. You can learn how to do a lot,from simple sail repairs to extensive fiberglassing, and there's alwayssomething to do for all skill levels. Stay tuned to the wyc_info Email List and check our website for the schedule. We do repairs in our workshop at the Waterfront Activities Center.

Racing
We have informal racingoften held regularly during the warmer months. We can show youthe basics of racing, and you can meet new people to sail with. OurRear Commodore is in charge of all racing at the club and can bereached via email at rearcommodore@washingtonyachtclub.org

Chiefs and Officers (a list of everyone)
Chiefsare members who areknowledgeable sailors and are passionate about the club. Both studentsand Alumni are chiefs. They enforce club rules and hold authority inmatters regarding the safety of club operations. We also have 3main officers who are like chiefs (and usually are chiefs), but are more involved in the daily functioning of the club.Our Commodore is in charge of the club as a whole, ViceCommodore is in charge of teaching, and our Rear Commodore is in chargeofracing. We always welcome new students who are interested in becominga Chief or an Officer.

Other Social Events
We have parties (such as our Holiday Party) and sailing events (such as Lake Sails). Stay tuned to the wyc_info Email List and check our website for upcoming events.
