5. The Laser Fleet Captain may have one assistant Fleet Captain, and the Barge Fleet Captain may have two assistant Fleet Captains. The assistant may make purchases only as directed by their Fleet Captains.

5. The Laser and Barge Fleet Captains may have the assistance of one Assistant Fleet Captain each. The Rental Keelboat Fleet Captain may have one fewer Assistant Fleet Captain than the number of boats in the Rental Keelboat Fleet. All Assistants may make purchases, repairs and maintenance only as directed by their respective Fleet Captains.

EXPLANATION

Both Lasers and KBs are our "teaching fleets". They are the primary draws to this club: cruising and 'screaming reaches'.

The KB fleet does not lend itself to quick or low skill fixes. This translates as much better skills needed from the general club or much more time needed by the Flt Cpt themselves. There is also a much broader usage between both members AND non-members than most fleets. Further, when they're broken, there's an immediate loss in revenue, something very scarce in a club of our structure. This doesn't include the unseen loss due to inadequate maintenance. Also, those that typically make up the Flt Cpts aren't students and therefore don't typically have the schedule that matches when the WAC is open.

In short (finally) the KB fleet deserves and needs more attention and that should be reflected in the by-laws. Please, come and support this by-laws change at the general meeting following this issue of the Tell Tale. Tell the club you support the Keelboat Fleet Captain and the fleet.
