A Brief and Incomplete History

Here's a brief history of the site as far as I know (most exact dates unknown):

Unknown - At one point the site was hosted by UW at http://students.washington.edu/sailing/ (Here's a link to what it kind of looked like). A member of the club named Andrew Cheung seems to have thrown it together to replace whatever previous monstrosity existed which has since passed into myth and legend [Andrew here: I don't actually know who made the purple monster of a site]

2000AD? [2005ish] - At some point the site seems to have been moved to a Dreamhost Server, presumedly to enable some independent control and also to make use of a database system.

2010AD? [2009ish] - At some point a google site was created, presumedly as a visual and organizational upgrade (here's a link to an archived copy of that site) This site was a mess and had organizational issues. In addition, it linked to several separate sites that it used for different purposes such as the database (still on Dreamhost), the New Members Guide (separate Google site) and a bunch of gadgets and pictures on the dreamhost server. [This mess was a slightly better mess compared to the purple one, and more importantly allowed faster changes to announcements and things]

Summer of 2012AD - A group of HCDE students (myself included) was looking for a website to redesign as part of a class project extended an offer to the chiefs and officers to redesign the site, an offer readily accepted. By the end of the summer we had created a new design in a separate google site. We had chosen to build the new site on the google site framework to make maintenance easy for whatever webmaster came afterwards as google sites is easy to edit. The site was 'handed over' after the summer and sat there for the next several months

Winter of 2012AD - I became the club webmaster and started getting some feedback on the prototype site in order to get the content ready to go live.

Early 2013AD - After some investigation and reverse engineering of the architecture of the site, I figured out how the site was put together and over the course of a few weeks was able to deprecate the old site and push the new site live. Since then I have made some content updates, smoothing out the layout of some pages and updating some content to be less wordy. Also, now that the site is live, I have been making some attempts to transition the responsibility of the content of some of the sections of the site to other members of the club
